Dr. Venu G. Dasigi, Ph.D.
VENU G. DASIGI is currently a Professor of Computer Science at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, where he previously served as Department Chair (2012-13) and Dean from (2014- 18). He has held Professorial and administrative positions at other universities previously, at Southern Polytechnic State University (now Kennesaw State University) in Atlanta, Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, and Wright State University in Ohio. He has a PhD in Computer Science from University of Maryland, College Park, prior graduate and undergraduate degrees in Engineering from the Netherlands and India.
Dr. Dasigi’s teaching and research interests are in Information Search, Retrieval and Classification, Text Mining, Natural Language Processing, Neural Networks, etc. He has authored over sixty technical papers and reports, and published in journals such as ACM/IEEE Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, International Journal of Data Mining and Bioinformatics, Pattern Recognition, Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, and International Journal of Intelligent Systems, as well as conferences such as the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) and the World Conference of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). He is currently interested in Unicode processing and analysis of languages other than English, including languages of India. Dr. Dasigi has also served a full term of five years as Commissioner on the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc., and has been a program evaluator since 2001.
Dr. Dasigi has received various federal and state grants totaling over $2M, some in collaboration with others, and has held research fellowships at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Air Force Research Laboratory. He was involved in the proposal development for and subcontracted on two Small Business Innovation Research. He conceived and organized a national workshop, “Toward DomainIndependent Strategies for Abductive Inference,” sponsored by Association for Advancement of Artificial Intelligence in 1991, and has served on the organizing committees of several conferences. Dr. Dasigi is a senior member of Association for Computing Machinery, a member of the IEEE Computer Society. He is a member of the founding group for the Pledge of the Computing Professional.
