Master of Arts in Sanskrit
This program is aimed at providing the student with a comprehensive understanding of Sanskrit language and literature. The varied courses are aimed at offering expertise to the student in different genres of Sanskrit literature. The course curriculum contains some of the well-known texts in each genre thereby providing a deep understanding of each genre. It also provides the necessary critical tools with which the student gauges the prominence and excellence in each of these texts. The program also provides insights into the cultural and social conditions of the past through times unknown to the 13th century from the texts of various ages.

Requirements :
Duration: Two years (2 semesters per year)
Required Units: (30 credit units)
Required Courses: 10 Core Courses - 3 Credit Units each
This program does not require an internship or externship.
General Admission Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an approved or accredited institution is required
- Pass an admissions screening test with a minimum 18 points (out of 25 points) and pass an interview with department chair/faculty
Every applicant will be assessed by the Faculty for admission.

- GSL 503 Purāṇic and Itihāsa Literature - 3 units

- GSL 505 Sanskrit Drama - 3 units
- GSL 506 Vedic Literature - 3 units
- GSL 507 Advanced Sanskrit Grammar and Linguistics - 3 units
- GSL 508 Sanskrit Poetics - 3 units
- GSL 509 Research Methods & Thesis Proposal - 3 units
- GSL 510 Thesis - 3 units
The evaluation has the following components- Final exams, Mid-term exams, Assignments, Discussions, a Thesis, and an Oral Defense. Students will be awarded a degree in Master of Arts in Sanskrit, on their successful completion of all the required courses, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher based on the evaluation weightages across the various methods/metrics.
