Course Aim
This course aims to equip students with foundational skills in medical terminology, enabling them to communicate effectively within the healthcare field. By exploring the structure and formation of medical terms, associating them with specific body systems, and understanding diagnostic procedures and abbreviations, students will develop the language skills necessary for success in healthcare professions
Course Objectives
- Foundational Medical Language Skills: Equip students with the ability to read, write, and understand the language of medicine, emphasizing the structure and formation of medical terms.
- Body System Association: Enable students to associate medical terms with specific body systems, enhancing their understanding of anatomy and physiology.
- Diagnostic and Symptomatic Interpretation: Develop students; skills to identify diagnostic and symptomatic terms related to the pathophysiology of each body system.
- Diagnostic Testing Knowledge: Familiarize students with designated diagnostic testing procedures, including laboratory tests, imaging studies, surgical procedures, and pharmacy-related terminology.
- Understanding Medical Abbreviations: Help students distinguish and understand common medical abbreviations and acronyms used in clinical practice.
Learning Outcomes
- Associate Terms with Body Systems: Accurately associate medical terminology with the relevant body systems, demonstrating an understanding of their functions.
- Describe Diagnostic Procedures: Summarize designated diagnostic testing procedures, including laboratory tests, imaging studies, and surgical interventions.
- Recognize Medical Abbreviations: Distinguish and understand common medical abbreviations and acronyms utilized in healthcare settings.
- Expand Medical Vocabulary: Develop and maintain an active vocabulary of essential medical terms across various body systems.

Certificate: Students will receive certificate of completion. Students enrolled in “For CREDIT’ will also receive TRANSCRIPT.

Dr. Bhargavi (Bee) Simhadri is a seasoned nursing leader with over a decade of
experience, committed to improving patient care and advancing the nursing profession. With a strong focus on clinical excellence and operational efficiency, Dr. Simhadri has successfully implemented numerous initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and employee satisfaction.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Simhadri is passionate about educating the next generation of nurses. As an Adjunct Professor at California State University, Dr. Simhadri teaches courses in Nursing Leadership and Nursing Informatics, imparting essential knowledge and skills to aspiring healthcare professionals.
Dr. Simhadri is actively involved in various professional organizations, including the
Association of California Nurse Leaders, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Nurses Association, and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Through these affiliations, Dr. Simhadri contributes to the advancement of the nursing field and collaborates with other healthcare leaders to address critical issues.
