The University of Silicon Andhra (Milpitas, California) is excited to announce the Call for Papers for the First International Conference on Indic Languages (ICIL 2024), a premier gathering for researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts in the fields of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computational Linguistics (CL) for Indic languages. ICIL 2024 aims to bring together experts from diverse domains to explore the latest advancements, applications, and challenges in Indic languages.
Almost all the research and development work done in NLP and CL is primarily focused on English and a handful of other languages. However, India is home to over 1.4 billion people whose mother tongues span dozens of languages. These Indic languages have a long history, abundant literature, and unique linguistic traditions. However, they are low-resource languages from the perspective of NLP and CL. This annual conference aims to help advance research and development in Indic Languages through the development of corpora, parallel corpora, optical character recognition, tagged training datasets, and eventual development of systems for machine translation, automatic speech recognition, spoken language interfaces, document clustering, document classification, text summarization, question-answering, author attribution, sentiment analysis, text generation, and conversational agents.
